Our Story
From Berlin. Made in Marrakesh. Rooted in Amazigh culture.
Azilane is a ceramic studio founded in Berlin by Yassine Aberchah — a designer with deep Moroccan roots and a passion for keeping traditional craft alive in the modern home.
Every piece begins as a sketch in Berlin. From there, it travels to Marrakesh, where skilled Amazigh ceramicists bring it to life by hand — using red clay sourced from the Atlas foothills, natural pigments, and techniques passed down through generations.
No factories. No moulds. No two pieces alike.
Why ceramics. Why Morocco.
Morocco has one of the world's oldest ceramic traditions. The Amazigh people — the indigenous Berber communities of North Africa — have been shaping clay into objects of beauty and function for thousands of years. Their symbols, patterns, and colours carry meaning: ancestry, nature, freedom, identity.
At Azilane, we don't just borrow these aesthetics. We work directly with artisan cooperatives in the Marrakesh region, ensuring every piece is made with care, fairly compensated, and rooted in genuine cultural knowledge.
When you bring an Azilane piece into your home, you're not buying décor. You're holding a small piece of that story.
How each piece is made
- Design — Yassine sketches each piece in Berlin, drawing inspiration from Amazigh symbols, Moroccan geometry, and contemporary home design.
- Shaping — Ceramicists in Marrakesh hand-throw or hand-build each piece from locally sourced clay.
- Drying — Pieces are slowly sun-dried over several days to prevent cracking.
- Painting — Each symbol and pattern is painted by hand using natural mineral-based pigments.
- Firing — A final kiln firing locks in the colour and applies a protective glaze.
The entire process takes weeks. That's not a flaw — that's what makes it worth owning.
The name
Azilane is a word from the Tamazight language — the ancient language of the Amazigh people. It means beautiful or graceful. It felt like the only right name.
