“Cactus Medina”

A joyful tribute to the vibrant soul of Moroccan craftsmanship — where tradition meets playful design.

The Story Behind the Piece

Handcrafted in a sunlit atelier just outside Marrakech, “Cactus Medina” is more than just a plate — it’s a celebration of Moroccan artistry and whimsical design. Inspired by the hardy cactus plants that thrive in desert gardens and the playful spirit of souks in the Medina, this piece merges humor, heritage, and modern aesthetics.

The bold lines and deep green glazes are hand-painted by skilled artisans who inherit techniques passed down over generations. The cactus is more than a motif — it’s a symbol of resilience, protection, and joy.

Why Each Piece is Special

Each plate in the “Cactus Medina” collection is made entirely by hand. That means:

  • No two pieces are ever exactly alike.
  • You might notice slight changes in brushstroke, glaze texture, or shape.
  • These small differences are what make each item deeply personal and perfectly imperfect.

It’s not mass-produced — it’s made with soul.

How It's Made

Step 1: Hand-Throwing & Shaping

  • Crafted using local Moroccan clay
  • The base is hand-shaped, then trimmed for balance and uniformity
  • Drying naturally over several days ensures no cracking

Step 2: First Kiln Firing

  • Once fully dried, each plate is fired in traditional kilns using centuries-old techniques

Step 3: Hand-Painting

  • The signature cactus design is painted by hand using natural, lead-free pigments
  • Colors are chosen to reflect the earthy Moroccan palette: deep greens, warm terracotta, and black ink

Step 4: Glazing & Second Firing

  • A protective glaze is applied to seal the design and give it a subtle sheen
  • Plates are fired a second time to lock in color and ensure durability
